The term Dieselpunk was coined in 2001 by game designer Lewis Pollak to describe his role-playing game Children of the Sun and since than it is used to describe variety of games, music, fashion and the whole subculture.

As a genre, dieselpunk is similar to its more known mother-genre: Steampunk. It combines the aesthetics, mindset and the diesel-based technology of the interwar period all the way to the 1950s with retro-futuristic styles, technology and postmodern feel.

Dieselpunk fashion is a mix of styles of the diesel era with modern alternative styles. Styles that include diesel era fashion staples such as covered arms, waistcoats, styles of shoes, head wear and hosiery to distinguish oneself from rest of the population and express nonconformism.

Diselpunk as a music genre brought back neo-swing (mix of the various music movements of the era with modern sound and production) and gave birth to electro-swing (mix of swing music and electronica) which is gaining more and more popularity.

If you want to check some of neo-swing and electro-swing bands, here are some recommendations: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Royal Crown Revue, Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Indigo Swing, Wolfgang Parker, The End Times Spasm Band, Caravan Palace , Good Co, and Tape Five.
