Psychobilly is a subgenre of rockabilly, with addition punk rock, r’n’r, blues and constant references to Sci-fi, horror, violence, sexuality often presented in cheeky and comic fashion.
Typical Psychobilly band is a trio consisting of an upright double bass, hollowbody electric guitar and drums, with one musician doubling as a vocal.
Musicians and fans are proud to be called psychos and dress in punked up, horror version of rockabilly 1950’s inspired fashion.
Look includes heavily studded and painted leather jacket, often with cut off sleeves, prominent vintage style tattoos, DrMartens, creepers, 50’s style shoes, band T shirts, pilot jackets, bleached jeans, tartan shirts, 50’s style clothing and hairstyles often in bright rainbow colors, leggings, miniskirts and prints inspired by B-grade horror movies.
Girls in Psychobilly scene are called Betties, after 50’s pinup queen Bettie Page and they generaly emulate the pinup style adding the punk and macabre twist to it. Often utilizing vintage lingerie like garter belts in their outfits.
